Our Approach to Leaf Guard Installation

When you contact Gecko Gutter for a leaf guard quote, we provide clear information and perform a multi-faceted evaluation of your home.

We take into consideration your roof type, the type of debris around your property, your existing gutter system, and your budget. From there, our estimator will recommend a solution designed to work best for your specific situation.

To keep the process straightforward and effective, we focus on two leaf guard systems that have consistently proven their performance: Atlas Gutter Guard and Bulldog Gutter Guard. Specializing in these two products allows us to ensure proper installation and long-term reliability.

Why We Focus on Atlas and Bulldog

We intentionally limit our leaf guard offerings to Atlas Gutter Guard and Bulldog Gutter Guard.

Both systems are widely used and respected in the industry, and they are both built from durable metal materials that withstand Florida’s heat and weather year after year. Unlike plastic or PVC options, these metal systems resist warping, cracking, and fading, providing long-term performance and minimal maintenance.

Atlas Gutter Guard and Bulldog Gutter Guard are also mechanically fastened (screw-on), which provides greater stability than pop-in styles, and neither system requires installation beneath your shingles. This helps preserve your roof’s integrity and maintains your manufacturer’s warranty.

By focusing on two proven options, we make it easy to choose a system that fits your home and budget. Each has demonstrated consistent performance and reliability, giving you confidence in your investment.

Comparing Atlas and Bulldog Leaf Guards

Each system is designed for specific needs. Here’s a quick look at both systems.

Gutter Installation

Atlas Gutter Guard is a stainless-steel micro-mesh system designed to handle both fine debris and heavier water flow. Its fine mesh makes it particularly effective for homes with pine needles, small leaves, or areas where roof valleys converge and water tends to concentrate. Atlas is often chosen when higher filtration is needed, providing extra protection against clogs while maintaining smooth water flow.

Bulldog Leaf Guard

Bulldog gutter guard is a solid aluminum system that blocks bulk debris and helps keep gutters and downspouts flowing freely. Its design works best for homes where leaves are the primary concern and in areas with low to moderate water flow. Bulldog offers a reliable, cost-effective option for homeowners seeking dependable protection with minimal maintenance.

By comparing these two systems, you can identify the solution that fits your home’s specific needs. Whether you’re looking for fine filtration in high-debris areas or solid coverage for leaf-heavy environments, there is a leaf guard solution that will work for you.

Our Leaf Guard Evaluation Process

Leaf guard performance depends on more than just the product alone. During an evaluation, we consider several factors to ensure the system works effectively in real-world conditions:

By looking at all of these details, we can recommend a leaf guard system, or even a combination of systems, that provides reliable protection and keeps water flowing as it should.

Installation Matters

Even the best leaf guard won’t perform properly if it’s installed incorrectly. At Gecko Gutter, all installations are handled by our in-house, fully insured team, which includes both liability and workers’ compensation coverage.

Our installations are:

Customers love knowing that our installers are paid by the hour, not by the foot. This ensures they have the time needed to provide proper fit, secure fastening, and high-quality workmanship on every job.

When Do Leaf Guards
Make Sense?

Leaf guards are an excellent solution for many homes, but the truth is that they work best when the system matches your home’s needs. They are often recommended when:

In some situations, a leaf guard may not be the ideal solution on its own. For example, if gutters are undersized or damaged, if drainage issues exist, or if there is structural or visual impedance, we may need to take additional considerations into account.

That’s why every recommendation at Gecko Gutter starts with an evaluation from one of our team members. This ensures that you can trust that the solution we install will provide long-term relief for your home.

Leaf Guard Installation FAQ

It depends on the type of leaf guard. Atlas Gutter Guard is designed to block nearly all debris except the very smallest particles. For context, roofing granules (commonly called shingle grit) range from 0.4 to 1.4 mm, while the Atlas mesh openings are 0.55 mm (550 microns).

Bulldog Gutter Guard, with more surface area, has larger holes to allow maximum water flow while blocking larger debris. It allows small particulates through the holes, requiring very occasional interior gutter cleaning. Downspouts can still flow freely, and time between cleanings depends on the amount of shingle grit and other small matter coming off your roof.

Atlas micromesh is designed to allow water to flow smoothly into the gutter, even during heavy rains, without overflow. Bulldog, with more solid surface area, may experience some “dribble-over” during very intense storms.

Leaf guard products that attach to the gutter or fascia without being nailed under shingles are generally considered safe and do not affect roof warranties. However, it’s important to note that products that require lifting shingles or attaching directly to the roof can potentially void warranties.

Recommended best practice: Always check your specific roof manufacturer or contractor warranty before installation.

Leaf guards significantly reduce, and in many cases eliminate, the need to clean your gutters, but some maintenance may still be needed. Let’s take a closer look.

  • If your gutter system includes valley shields, leaves can become trapped behind them; these areas should be monitored and cleared periodically. This can often be accomplished with a simple broom attachment.
  • Tree debris dropping directly on the roof or guards may need to be blown off occasionally.
  • Bulldog leaf guard allows a percentage of shingle grit to pass through. This typically needs cleaning every 5 years or so, depending on your shingle age and type.

Definitely. Both Atlas and Bulldog are screw-on systems, designed for safe, straightforward removal. This allows for repairs after damage, or full removal if you replace your roof in the future.
