Gecko Gutter FAQ
Licensing, Insurance & Permits
Are you insured?
Are you licensed?
Yes. We are a proper and legally licensed business with the Florida Division of Corporations. You can find our active listing under our name, Gecko Gutter LLC, on the Florida Division of Corporations website here: www.sunbiz.org
Note: Gutter installation is an exterior modification/attachment. Gutter installation is not regulated by Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation, and the DBPR does not offer a license for gutter or leaf guard installation, repairs, or cleaning. Therefore, the only license a gutter company can supply to customers is their license to do business in a particular city or county, also known as a business tax receipt, which demonstrates that the individual or company is legally recognized and properly registered to do business.
Do I need a permit for gutter installation?
Counties: As of 2026, Orange, Seminole, and Lake Counties do not require a permit for gutter installation. Individual counties in Florida have different permitting rules. If you are located outside these counties, please check with the permitting office for your county.
Cities: The City of Orlando does require a permit for gutter installation only if the gutter system is included on architectural plans that have been submitted to the City of Orlando.
Do I need to inform my HOA?
Most HOAs do require prior approval for gutter installation. This is typically accomplished by submitting an application, either in person or through the HOAs online portal, then waiting for approval. It is usually necessary to submit copies of your installation company’s estimate form, licensure, and liability insurance along with your application. You will need to check with your HOA to determine their specific requirements.
Additional items your HOA may require:
- (Often) A copy of your home survey, highlighting the location(s) of requested gutter placement. This is one of the documents required during the closing process when you purchased your home, so it will often be found in your closing paperwork. Simply text the image or file of your survey to 407-906-6966 or email it to info@geckogutter.com and we will highlight and return, usually the same day.
- (Occasionally) Picture of the gutter color or material. These can be found on our site on the Colors page or the Portfolio page, for quick copy, screenshot, or download. You are also welcome to text or email our office and request a sample picture.
- (Rarely) A certificate of insurance, or “COI”, with your HOA’s name listed as the insured. Our office manager can easily request this from our insurance company and provide it to you or your HOA, usually same day.
Please feel free to call us for additional information or assistance with forms.
Gutter Materials & Design
Why should I choose seamless gutters?
Why should I choose an aluminum gutter?
Will my gutters rust?
In regard to metals, corrosion is a generic term. It refers to the deterioration of metals and alloys (metal mixed with other metals or elements).
Rust is one particular type of corrosion that specifically applies to iron. While aluminum gutters are made from alloys, the alloys consist of 97-98% aluminum, and less than 1% iron, so rust itself is a minimal concern.
While aluminum does not rust, it does corrode in other ways. Aluminum is a very reactive metal. It reacts with a variety of things such as:
- overly acidic rainwater (can be caused by car exhaust and other air pollutants)
- various materials and elements found in sand and dirt (carried into your gutters on windy days)
- decomposing vegetation such as leaves left in gutters
- ingredients like silica in the shingle grit that wears off of your roof
After many years, your aluminum gutters will begin to show visible corrosive deterioration, most commonly at the corner seams. Eventually, these processes will lead to leaks and require replacement. The standard usable life of gutters is 20+ years, depending on maintenance.
Keeping your gutters clear with regular cleanings and/or leaf guard helps slow the corrosive process, giving you every penny’s worth out of your rain gutter investment.
Gutter Sizing & Installation
What size gutter do I need?
Residential, K-style gutters come in 5″, 6″, and 7″ widths. 5″ is generally insufficient to handle the amount of water that runs off a roof in heavy Florida rains and is mostly found only in box stores for DIY installations.
We offer strong, 6″ & 7″ seamless gutters, which capably handle Florida’s heavy rainy season.
If you have a tile or metal roof, 7″ gutter is strongly recommended. Tile sits higher above the fascia than shingles, and metal roofs overhang farther, requiring the extra inch of 7″ gutters.
The vast majority of residential gutters are made from aluminum coil that is .027” thick.
.027” is sufficient in almost all residential applications, particularly if hangers are conservatively spaced (every 24”).
.032” coil is available as an upgrade, and we are happy to make .032” gutters upon request. Upgrading to .032” adds an average of $110 to your total (estimate based on an installation of 200 linear feet of gutter at mid-2026 aluminum prices).
What is your hanger spacing?
We install gutters using interior hangers spaced every 24″, which is very conservative. This ensures your gutters are smooth, strong, straight, and able to carry plenty of water.
What is a "K-style" gutter?
K-style gutter is the type seen on most residential homes. The back of the gutter is flat so your home’s fascia can support it, and the front is styled like crown molding, with the front edge curving outward to catch more rain during heavy rainfall.
Do you install super gutters?
Not at this time.
Super gutter is a specialty product. It is a thick, structural, extruded type of gutter that is most often used as part of a pool enclosure system and is installed by pool enclosure companies.
We do offer cleaning and repair of super gutters.
How do I know where I need gutters?
Start by identifying problem areas, such as:
- Water digging troughs in the soil near walls, corners, or foundation
- “Mushy” areas around the house that aren’t able to dry out
- Excess rain carrying away soil or mulch around sidewalks, patios, landscaping, or A/C pads
- Mold or mildew on fascia or walls
- Dirt or mud splashing onto paint, stucco, or siding
- Water accumulation impeding use of an area
- Standing water inviting insects or mosquito breeding
An estimator can also evaluate your home’s unique needs.
