Gutter Components

Gutter Components

Gutter components work in tandem to protect your foundation, siding, landscaping, and roofline from damage. We created this page to provide a complete overview of the components that make up a reliable gutter system.

Gutter systems can be broken down into three main groups:

Gutters protect your home from water damage, and keeping them clear helps prevent clogs, overflows, and repairs down the line. Gecko Gutter takes pride in performing professional gutter cleaning services to help make sure your system works as it should.

Gutter Parts

The Horizontal Framework of Your System

Gutter Coil (6" & 7")
Gutter coil is a roll of flat aluminum formed on-site into a seamless, K-style gutter. It is then cut into individual straight pieces, or “runs”, for installation. Our custom fabrication ensures a precise fit for your roofline.
Available Sizes:
  • 6-inch gutters – Standard residential size
  • 7-inch gutters – Handles tile and metal roofs and heavier rainfall

Interior Hangers

Interior hangers fasten the gutter to the fascia. They work to distribute weight evenly and maintain the proper pitch. The modern hidden hangers we use at Gecko Gutter resist loosening over time, unlike older spike-and-ferrule systems that can loosen and allow the gutter to sag as wood expands and contracts.

Ideal spacing for gutter hangers is every 24 inches. Tight spacing provides consistent support along the entire run, ensuring your gutters stay aligned and functional.

End Caps
End caps close off the ends of each gutter run. They are common leak points if they are not installed correctly. Endcaps are adhered with sealant, then crimped with a crimping tool for a tight, waterproof connection.

Miters
Miters join gutter runs at the interior and exterior corners. Proper installation ensures corners handle both structural stress and concentrated water flow. Well-installed miters can last over 20 years, reduce leaks and maintain a clean, finished look.

Wedges (T-Wedges & Triangle Wedges)

Wedges are used when fascia boards are angled rather than vertical, or when there is a 1×2 underneath the drip edge, resulting in a space behind the gutter. They allow hangers to sit properly and maintain consistent water flow.

Without wedges where required, gutters may face a variety of issues. They could tilt improperly or retain standing water, reducing your gutter system’s efficiency and lifespan.

Downspout Parts

Vertical Drainage Components

Downspouts

Downspouts are straight, hollow aluminum pipes that transport water vertically from the gutter down to the ground and away from your foundation. Proper sizing and placement are important to correctly and efficiently handle the flow of water. This reduces strain on the system and protects your home.

Downspouts come in 8’ and 10’ lengths.

Available Sizes:
  • 3″ x 4″ – Standard residential
  • 4″ x 5″ – Handles higher water volume

Outlets
Outlets create an additional layer of stability to the connection between the gutter and downspout. Outlets also open the drainage hole to its maximum drainage capacity, and are used as needed when drainage is at a premium.

Downspout Straps
These straps fasten downspouts to your home. Each downspout is typically secured with two straps. This prevents movement during storms or high winds and helps to maintain proper alignment.

Why Part Selection Matters

A complete gutter system is more than just aluminum troughs. Each component works together to protect your home from water damage. When you use professional-grade materials, it ensures your gutters perform reliably for years to come.

Yet, even the highest-quality aluminum will underperform if the supporting parts are incorrectly installed or spaced. A gutter system’s durability depends on careful attention to every component.

Why Part Selection Matters

At Gecko Gutter We Focus On:

Even small components can have a major impact on drainage efficiency and system longevity. Attention to detail is what separates a temporary repair from a system built to last decades.
